This is a very unusual red proof of "Amulet of Samrkand", printed by Doubleday in the UK.
Despite being labelled an Uncorrected Proof, it is in reality a chapter sampler, as it only has the first 12 chapters in it. Doubleday released this before they released the full proof - probably because they were so excited by the book they had they wanted to get something out as quickly as possible while the remainder of the story was beign edited or similar.
I have only ever seen this copy so I assume these must be very thin on the ground.
Unfortunately there is are a couple of tiny puncture parks to the top of the front cover, where I assume something was stapled toit when they were posted out.
